The Nike Air Max 270 Magenta

Gearing up for Air Max day Nike has introduced its latest silhouette, the Air Max 270, now the brand is playing with color ways for the model. The Air Max 270 is a lifestyle, inspired by the Air Max 93 and Air Max 180. It features a slip-on construction, mesh, foam and a new Air unit, which is the star, not only for its comfortable cushioning but also on some of the color-ways the Air unit is a bold contrasting color. The magenta and gold version features hints of magenta peeking from under the black mesh and Swoosh branding on the heel tab and midfoot. The bold magenta hue on the Air Unit is a nice contrast against the black and the gold (yellow) accents. The sneaker is made for all-day wear, promising lasting comfort. These are currently available at rime’s Upper East Side location.Screen Shot 2018-03-08 at 3.08.23 PM Screen Shot 2018-03-08 at 3.08.33 PM Screen Shot 2018-03-08 at 3.08.46 PM Screen Shot 2018-03-08 at 3.08.54 PM

Supreme X Nike NBA

Another day, another collaboration from Supreme, the NYC based skate brand teams up with Nike and the NBA. The collaboration fits right into the current trend of 90s nostalgia, as a collage of NBA team logos are plastered across an Air Force 1 Mid, a worm up jacket, a basketball jersey and basketball shorts. Mixed into the NBA team graphics are Nike’s Swoosh logo and Supreme’s box logo. The Air Force 1 Mid is covered in printed logos with the exception of an embroidered ankle strap, while the satin lined warm jacket is completely embroidered with the logos, and the poly-mea jersey and shorts feature printed logos.Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 2.51.51 PM Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 2.52.11 PM Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 2.52.17 PM Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 2.52.28 PM Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 2.53.13 PM Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 2.53.38 PM Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 2.53.47 PM

Nike’s “The 1 Reimagined” Collection

Nike’s “The Force is Female” thread continues with a collection created by an a all-female Nike design team for women. The fourteen women reimagined two of Nike’s iconic silhouettes, the Air Force 1 and the Air Jordan 1, into a 10 piece collection. Both the Air Force 1 and the Air Force Jordan 1, debuted as sneakers designed for male basketball players. Thinking about the consumer, the team thought about how dimensional women are and based the rework of the two silhouettes on five universal aspects of female identity, which resulted in the naming of the models in the collection—Explorer, Jester, Lover, Rebel and Sage. The results are unexpected twists on the Air Force 1 and Air Jordan 1, featuring mismatched logos and distinct lacing systems and materials, and silhouettes, like the sneaker-mule hybrid, a Jumpman zip up boot and more. A stand out of the collection is an Air Force 1 that has a 12mm heel stack, the tallest ever offered in the history of the silhouette. Each reworked silhouette has stand out features. The Air Jordan 1 Explorer XX has a rushed heel for adjustment of the shoe’s height. The Air Force 1 Lover xx has a platform,  and is transformed into a mule with iridescent backed perforations. The AJ1 Lover XX has a lush velvet lining, molded interior and an angled collar that hugs the foot. The AF1 Sage XX is the one that takes on the 12mm height and is streamlined by the shoe’s lines and laceless system, for a minimalist take on the classic. The AJ1 Sage XX has a clean design due to its no-lace system. The AF1 Rebel XX gets flipped with a corset lacking system at the heel. The AJ1 Rebel XX is the only shoe that boasts the only color in the collection, with the use of a red Jordan logo, also amplifying the rebellious namesake is the medial zipper entry, which turns the upper sideways, twisting the lacing system. the AF1 Jester XX takes on a playful vibe with the branding placed in spots you wouldn’t normally see them, like moving the side Swoosh closer to the sole and further back towards the heel, along with a Nike tag moved from the tongue to flapping away  at the heel. The AJ Jester XX transforms the upper into a zippered boot, while the outsole gets an exaggerated ripple under the mid-foot. The AF1 Explorer has a utilitarian vibe with the use of protective leathers, d-ring hardware and an external tongue. he color scheme of the collection is minimalist and clean, the all-white is reminiscent of a blank canvas, allowing them to work with any personal style. Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.19.59 PM Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.20.06 PM Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.20.12 PM Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.20.18 PM Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.20.26 PM Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.20.32 PM Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.20.41 PM Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.20.49 PM Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.20.57 PM Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 5.21.03 PM

The Air Force 1 SANER

Nike continues to release silhouettes from their Latino Heritage Pack, the Los Primeros collection, celebrating Latino Heritage month. The collection has some of Nike’s iconic silhouettes reimagined by Hispanic artists. The Wafafu Air Max 1 and INTI Cortez have already been released and next up is the Air Force 1 SANER. The SANER is designed by Mexican artist Edgar Flores, known as SANER. With roots in graffiti art, SANER also has a degree in graphic design. His work has been shown at galleries around the world from Mexico City to Berlin. The Air Force 1 SANER design takes inspiration from pre-Hispanic cultures, who believed the jaguar was a mystic with the power of survival in both life and death. Jaguar inspired details are seen throughout the sneaker’s upper set against black, with SANER’s personal touch on the heels. These will be available at rime locations on October 6th.

3-D Printing, And Its Place In The Design World.

3-D printing has been a great aid to medicine, especially for cardiac surgery. Since its debut in the ’80s, 3-D printing has also had a foot in the design world, mainly for car manufacturing, but the advance technology has integrated fashion and interior design over the years. The procedure was originally conceived as a fast and more cost-effective method for creating prototypes for product development. Big brands like Nike have already started to deliver products that are manufactured and designed using 3-D printing. These major brands can streamline their manufacturing process. Instead of needing to receive products then design specifications, then ship the products out for manufacturing, and waiting to receive them back to sell, they can now design and manufacture products in-house through 3-D printing. Companies are now able to custom-design their products based on specific consumer needs, in a faster time span. Brands can use 3-D printing to quickly create prototypes of new designs, to create samples to use as marketing tools. This creates a faster design-to-product timeline. Ikea has just released a chair made using a digital knitting method similar to Nike’s Flyknit. Nike is such a fan of 3-D printing system that they patented their very own 3-D printed shoe technology, they’ve already used the system to optimize prototypes for  various track and football cleats. Another sneaker company on the 3-D printing thread is adidas. The brand is set to release their first 3-D printed running shoe. The shoe features an engineered 3-d web structure with desk zones in high force areas and less dense zones in the low force areas for optimum level of performance. The runner also has a 3-D heel counter, which is integrated into the midsole and avoids the typical process of gluing and stitching. This allows for greater elasticity and support. The benefit of 3-D printing for shoe companies, is to make their products more customizable, pushing the envelope with the sneaker designs.

Kyrie 1

The Kyrie Irving sneaker is bright and bold. It’s a light sneaker with cushioning in the forefoot, traction that wraps the shoe’s sidewalls and breathability made with Hyperfine construction. There’s the Kyrie Irving logo on the sneaker’s tongue, along with his personal signature. There is also handwritten details on the heel. The design pattern on the traction near the toe and heel was inspired  by the Sydney Opera house, Irving’s birth place. The outsole boosts an acronym JBY, which stands for Just Be You.
