Women’s History Month

It’s Women’s History Month, and with the Me Too movement at a steadfast pace, women are feeling empowered. Brands are taking the lead by including women, who break through boundaries, on collaborations. PUMA brought in Lola Plaku, a music industry power player and CEO for the Lola Media Group, for a March-Women’s-History-Month release. Designed by Lola, the PUMA Nova GRL PWR is a women’s exclusive sneaker. The sneaker’s campaign is about building self-esteem and creating a platform for self-discovery and empowerment. Plaku paved her own path in the male-dominated music industry. As a woman who has set the bar on her own terms, Plaku is asked for guidance and advice from young women seeking to elevate their roles in professions dominated by men. her experience and the ability to build relationships has allowed her to create opportunities for those around her, women trying to make it. Plaku is all about paving the way for other women by fostering career development. The statement behind the Nova GRL PWR lines up with her GIRL CONNECTED mentorship program, which pairs aspiring female professionals with Plaku’s industry colleagues to learn the various ins and outs of the music industry, like A&R and marketing. Through GIRL CONNECTED she aims to share her experiences and knowledge with other young women who need someone to listen to their ides and help guide them in the right place. To celebrate the debut of Nike’s latest performance sneaker, the Air Max 720, rime is having a launch party at their Brooklyn location. There will be a raffle for a free pair of the “Northern Lights” (Night) version of the sneaker. And the first 50 get a ticket for first come first serve on release day, February 1st at 11 am. Regina King’s Golden Globes Winning Speech

While accepting her Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “If Beale Street Could Talk” , Regina Hall’s emotional speech included her promise for more inclusivity. She vowed to produce only gender-equal projects in the future, saying “In the next two years, everything that I produce… is 50 percent women. I challenge everyone out there who is in a position of power-not just in our industry-in all industries. I challenge you to challenge yourselves and stand with us in solidarity, and do the same.” As a female run business, rime is proud and inspired by her actions. Rime Teams Up With A Fabolous Way Foundation

A Fabolous Way Foundation was created by rapper Fabolous in 2011 to give back to the communities where opportunities are limited. The foundation aims to empower and instill a value of achievement through guidance, inspiration and community outreach in New York City. The foundation’s annual christmas toy drive is tomorrow, with all donations going towards the Madison Boys & Girls Club in Brooklyn. Rime Teams Up With Heeling Soles On A Sneaker Drive

Heeling Soles is an organization created because of the urgency and necessity to help diminish poverty. Dedicated to help build a global community of hope, by providing shoes, clothing and support to those in need. The organization believes that an individuals sell-esteem can be boosted by having access to a pair of shoes, to walk brighter paths in search of education, proper healthcare and an asset to their own community. Heeling Soles provides donated shoes to those in need by help of sneaker drives. Rime is hosting a partnered sneaker drive with rime at the Brooklyn shop on December 9th from 12-5. PEL NYC, previewed his Luxurious Villain at rime Brooklyn before taking it on tour. The artist’s work is thought provoking, and takes current events and pop culture and expresses them through his distinct perspective. 

PEL NYC Will Preview Their Luxurious Villain

Griot PEl, PEL NYC, provokes thought, feeling and conversation using news and pop culture as subject matter. His military and menswear design background sharpened his skills and broadened his artistic horizon with attention to detail. PEL’s trips around the world have helped to develop a perspective that’s all his own. His immersion into different cultures has helped him to incorporate different textures of conversation into a seamless thread. He has curated juxtaposed views with daily caricatures of current events via social media , and his monthly contribution in Penthouse, a full-page political feature called “Sketchy Truths”.  Whether he’s using a pen, marker or paint he has mastered a way to have in depth conversations with the viewer. The dialogue is often done whimsically while addressing the larger subject matter. His subtle pokes at pop culture and commercial compliance are his hallmark. PEL allows the viewer to take a glance at his offbeat imagination through his art. The preview at rime’s Brooklyn location will be of PEL’s Luxurious Villain exhibition before it goes on it global gallery tour. It will be happening for 48 hours on Saturday 9/29 and Sunday 9/30, where the artist will be in attendance, limited edition merch will be available for sale and the chance to win a customized Lucky figure.
