WBW:HLZBLZ Holiday ’15 Collection

Los Angeles based women’s street wear brand HLZBLZ reputation continues to steadily rise. Their distinct aesthetic sets them apart in a market where much isn’t offered to females. Their holiday collection, Watch & Learn, is inspired by a cultural and style phenomenon, a time when style enthusiasts took cues from music artists and their videos. Mtv influenced a generation, when music met television and youth subculture. The collection does a homage to ’90s R&B in the silhouettes, a HLZBLZ running signature, which they do well. The source of inspiration is apparent in the graphics, featuring such iconography as SWV. HLZBLZ also does a play on on the Mtv logo, reimagining it to represent the collection’s Watch &Learn name as well as the brand’s logo. Sticking with the R&B theme, one of the standout pieces, a sweater, boasts R&B female groups names done in traditionally punk fonts. There are also jackets and joggers that take on the same effect. The collection is a tribute to the spirit of ’90s youth culture while staying true to the HLZBLZ graphic language.

Adidas Stan Smith Powder Red

The iconic Stan Smith silhouette has been reinvented a lot this year, from gouge high top to going blue. The latest reinvention is an all over red  take on the original silhouette. The sneaker is done in prime suede, with embossed Stan Smith branding on the tongue, while the adidas branding on the heel is done in leather. The red leather outsole rounds out the shoe. The all red take on the shoe is a nice, on trend update.

Fear Of God X Pac Sun

Fear Of God reputation has been steadily rising. The California based brand has recently teamed up with chain retailer Pac Sun to release a more affordable and accessible line called, F.O.G. The line’s aesthetic is still very Fear Of God, with military inspired pieces and heavy on the flannel. The cookbook suggests this is a collection for those who are into layering, thermals are under shorts and flannels are over tees as sweatshirts and vests are piled on top of that. The collection is reminiscent of ’90s grunge. The color palette range isn’t wide, the grey, red, and army greens allows the design of the pieces to shine. The standout piece is the sleeve less army jacket, the bomber jacket is also nice. The F.O.G Pac Sun line allows the younger set who loves the Fear Of God range, but aren’t able to afford it, a  chance to get their hands on the same aesthetic Fear Of God offers.
